How it works
Every report starts from your site and the questions your buyers ask. Lite asks 25 buyer-style questions, once each on ChatGPT and Perplexity, for 50 answers. Full asks the same questions 3 times on each engine and combines the answers, for 150 answers. We measure through the engines' APIs, not screenshots. Most of the questions don't use your name. The ones that do are branded questions, and on ChatGPT every branded question gets a web search. In the Mailchimp sample, every branded answer from both engines cited web sources. We read your public pages for the brand signals checklist. These answers approximate what people see in the ChatGPT and Perplexity apps, but they are not identical.
What a report looks like: a real example
This is an independent sample we made with real ChatGPT and Perplexity answers on Oct 15, 2026, for mailchimp.com. Answer Checkup is not affiliated with Mailchimp or with any other brand named in it. Mailchimp did not ask for it and has not reviewed it. The competitors tracked were Klaviyo, Constant Contact, Brevo, HubSpot and ActiveCampaign.
Answers. 50 answers: 25 questions, each asked once on ChatGPT and once on Perplexity. 38 of the answers came from questions that don't name Mailchimp.
Share of voice (module 3). Mailchimp was named in 19 of those 38 answers, a 50% presence rate. Across all the times a tracked name was mentioned (73), Mailchimp had 19, a 26% share of voice.
| Name | Unbranded answers naming it | Share of voice |
|---|---|---|
| Mailchimp | 19 | 26% |
| Brevo | 16 | 22% |
| Klaviyo | 12 | 16% |
| HubSpot | 12 | 16% |
| ActiveCampaign | 11 | 15% |
| Constant Contact | 3 | 4% |
Cited domains (module 3). The most cited domain was mailchimp.com, with 21 citations. Next was mailerlite.com with 12, then help.brevo.com, hostinger.com and activecampaign.com with 9 each.
Brand signals (module 4). Entity clarity was 70 out of 100. The engines named Mailchimp in 12 of the 12 answers to questions that use its name. The checklist found Organization schema, an About page, a Contact page and a Wikipedia article. It found no logo, no sameAs links and no contact data in the homepage Organization schema.
Names nobody was tracking. The report also lists other email tools the answers named, outside the tracked list. MailerLite was named in 15 answers and Kit in 11. That list is a heuristic extraction, so it is shown separately from share of voice.
What a reader would do next. The first next step was to add the three things that failed in the homepage Organization schema: a logo, sameAs links to real profiles, and contact data. The second was to claim or create the outside profiles that fit the business and list them in sameAs.
Even a well-known brand gets something to fix. And a well-known brand was named in only half of the answers to buyer questions that don't use its name.
What a report can and can't tell you
We'd rather you know this before you pay.
- A report is a snapshot. Lite asks each question once per engine. Full asks every question 3 times on each engine and combines the answers, but all on the same day. Ask again tomorrow and some answers will differ. Treat the numbers as a reading on one day, not a fixed rank.
- Answers vary. Engines generate a fresh answer each time and may search different pages. Small samples swing.
- Close to the apps, not identical. Our ChatGPT and Perplexity answers approximate what people see in the consumer apps, but they are not identical.
- Some checks are heuristic. Whether a name counts as mentioned, the reason an answer didn't name you, the name-consistency check and the "engines can describe you" check are pattern-based. The report marks each check as checked or heuristic. The entity clarity score is our own simple checklist, not an industry standard. A low score means fewer clear signals, not a bad business.
- No guarantees. We can't promise rankings, and we can't promise any engine will recommend you after you make the fixes. Nobody can honestly promise that. We show where you stand and what is likely in the way.
FAQ
- Is this a subscription?
- No. Both reports are one-time payments. You pay once, and nothing renews.
- What's the difference between the Lite report and the Full report?
- The Lite report shows where you stand in AI answers: who gets named, which sites get cited, and how AI describes your business. The Full report is the deep test: it adds a technical SEO crawl of up to 75 pages, the gaps between your pages and the pages AI cites, and a ranked 30-day plan, and it asks every question 3 times on each engine and combines the answers.
- Why a one-time report instead of a monthly tool or an agency audit?
- You get the depth without the commitment. One price, paid once: no monthly plan, no retainer, nothing to cancel. Every finding comes with its evidence, and the report ends with what to do next, so you can act on it yourself or hand it to whoever runs your site. Run another report later if you want to compare.
- Which AI engines do you check?
- We check two engines: ChatGPT and Perplexity. On ChatGPT, every branded question, meaning the questions that use your name, gets a web search. The answers approximate what people see in the apps, but they are not identical.
- Will this get me recommended by AI?
- No report can promise that. It shows what the answers say today and what is most likely holding you back.
- How many times is each question asked?
- Lite asks each question once per engine. That keeps it fast and the price low, and the report says plainly that it's a snapshot. Full asks every question 3 times on each engine and combines the answers, so one unusual answer moves the numbers less. You can run either report again later to compare.
- Can I choose my competitors?
- Yes, up to 5. Leave it blank and we use a default list where one fits your category. Either way, the report says which competitors it tracked.
- Do I need to set anything up on my site?
- No. We read your public pages and ask the engines. Nothing to install.
- Who am I buying from?
- You buy the report from Answer Checkup. Sold through Link, LLC, an affiliate of Stripe, is the merchant of record: it runs checkout, emails your receipt and invoice, works out and collects any sales tax or VAT, and handles payment questions through Link support. Your purchase is labeled "Sold through Link". Its buyer terms are the Sold Through Link Terms at link.com/terms. Questions about the report itself come to us.
- Can I get a refund?
- All sales are final, except where the law or the Sold through Link refund policy gives you a refund. If your report fails to run, we'll re-run it free.
- Is the Mailchimp example a real report?
- Yes. It is an independent sample we made with real ChatGPT and Perplexity answers on Oct 15, 2026. We are not affiliated with Mailchimp or the other brands in it.
Answer Checkup is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with OpenAI, Perplexity, Mailchimp, Brevo, Klaviyo, HubSpot, ActiveCampaign, Constant Contact, Kit, MailerLite, Hostinger, Wikipedia or Wikidata.
