Best ways to check if ChatGPT mentions your business in 2027

Last updated October 2026. These are the methods that work today. We will update this page as 2027 brings changes.

Disclosure: Answer Checkup is our product. It is one of the options below, marked "our product".

There are four ways to check. They differ in cost, time and how much you can trust one answer.

1. Test it by hand

Open ChatGPT and Perplexity and ask the questions a new customer would ask, such as "best [your service] in [your city]".

  • Ask each question 3 times. AI answers change from run to run.
  • Write down who is named, in what order, and which sites are cited.
  • Use a logged-out or fresh session where you can. Past chats and location can change the answer.

Good for: a quick first look at no cost.
Keep in mind: it takes time, and a handful of answers can mislead you.

2. Check whether AI crawlers can read your site

If ChatGPT cannot read your pages, it is less likely to cite them. Check your robots.txt for OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, and make sure your main text is in the raw HTML.

  • By hand: Can AI crawlers see my site? Six checks to run
  • With a free tool: the Answer Checkup free scan (our product) checks robots.txt rules for 7 AI crawlers, llms.txt, schema.org markup, title and meta description, raw HTML content and your sitemap, and gives a score and a grade. The free scan shows only your grade and score. The check details and fixes are a paid unlock, see pricing.

Good for: finding blockers you can fix today.
Keep in mind: a crawler check does not ask any AI a question. It tells you if you can be read, not if you are named.

3. Get a one-time report

A one-time report asks many buyer questions at once and counts the results for you.

Answer Checkup (our product) offers paid one-time reports:

  • Buyer questions written from your site and category, asked on ChatGPT and Perplexity.
  • Share of voice against up to 5 competitors, the sites the engines cite, and how the engines describe your brand.
  • The Full report asks each question 3 times on each engine, crawls up to 75 pages on your site and adds a 30-day plan.
  • Listings we cannot find are reported as "not found in search". Backlinks are not included.
  • We measure through the engines' APIs, not screenshots. Only ChatGPT and Perplexity are run, both through their APIs with web search; answers approximate what people see in the ChatGPT and Perplexity apps, but they are not identical. No ranking guarantees.

Good for: a clear picture of where you stand and what to fix first.
Keep in mind: we measure only ChatGPT and Perplexity. Prices are on our pricing page.

4. Track it every month

If you want to see change over time, a tracking tool asks the same questions on a schedule. Several companies sell this, and many cover more engines than we do, for example Otterly.AI, Peec AI and Profound. Our comparison of AI visibility checkers describes each from its own site.

Answer Checkup (our product) also offers monthly tracking, but only for people who bought a report first.

Good for: teams who change their site or content often and want to see the effect.
Keep in mind: ongoing tracking costs more over time than a one-time check.

Which one should you start with?

  1. Run a crawler check to clear blockers.
  2. Do a short hand test on your top 5 questions.
  3. If the answers matter to your sales, get a report or start tracking.

What we do not know about 2027

We do not know which AI tools your buyers will use most in 2027. Check the engines they use today, and check again when that changes.
